Impromptu Whiskey Tasting

Impromptu Whiskey Tasting

Hubs has a friend at work that occasionally sends home mystery whiskey in teeny tiny unmarked bottles.  They come home, everyone tastes, and then emails thoughts and tasting notes back.  Except me.  I don’t have a taste for hard alcohol.

But Elizabeth likes whiskey!  And we had been finishing up the last odds and ends of the hospital ceiling tear down in my living room.  Someone grabbed some kielbasa, Brian met his wife at our house, and before you know it, we were eating bacon wrapped kielbasa!  She even brushed it in maple syrup.  I demanded more bacon.  I’m demanding like that.

We sauteed up some cabbage and peppers….I don’t remember what she put in there, but it was tasty so I’ll have to ask her.  Hubs made his fabulous mashed potatoes.  I even remembered to take a picture of the flowers she brought.  I know what she’s doing.  She’s trying to make me all girlyfied.  I’m the one female on the planet that doesn’t go nuts for flowers.  Unless I can eat them.

The descriptions of the different whisky samples got interesting.  Maybe some day I’ll taste something other than lighter fluid.  In the meantime, there’s always wine!  And bacon.  I’ll have to recreate this dinner for the Single Mom Chronicles.  Kielbasa was a life saver in those years.

  • That was a fun evening! Those sausages and the mashed potatoes! And the cabbage! It was delicious. The whiskey tasting was a success: remember, we got every taste spot on even if we couldn’t name the whiskey. Good job, Paul and Brian. And Paul, thank you for sharing.
