Thanksgiving Memoir"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Elizabeth is coming over today to do some communal holiday cooking with me.\u00a0 She&#8217;s back from Italy, she brought me presents, and it&#8217;s good to get back into the groove of working with her.\u00a0 We&#8217;re going to be having our seperate family dinners on Thursday and then we&#8217;re doing Friends Giving together the following Saturday.\u00a0 I&#8217;m cooking three turkeys between now and then.\u00a0 Sunday might be an all day in bed day.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve always just handled this meal completely on your own like I have, then it probably doesn&#8217;t occur to you to cook it with friends.\u00a0 But since I&#8217;ve moved down south, I&#8217;ve been involved in some all day food play adventures with some girlfriends.\u00a0 It started with Diane and raviolis.\u00a0 As you know, Amanda and I have played in the kitchen quite alot.\u00a0 And now Sage&#8230;.AKA the elusive Elizabeth.\u00a0 I highly recommend it!\u00a0 Usually, your friends will ask, &#8220;What can I bring?&#8221;\u00a0 Right?\u00a0 Instead of bringing something&#8230;..come over and cook!\u00a0 It just might be my new favorite thing to do in life.<\/p>\n<p>Update:\u00a0 Diane turned me on to an Oster twenty quart electric self basting roaster at Costco for forty bucks.\u00a0 Forty bucks!\u00a0 I should have gotten two.\u00a0 Talk about handy.\u00a0 Basil and Sage will work that thing to death.\u00a0 I used it at the outlaws last Thursday to roast the turkey.\u00a0 There was one caveat&#8230;the roaster doesn&#8217;t brown anything.\u00a0 No problem!\u00a0 I just threw it in Wendy&#8217;s oven on convect for about twenty minutes at the end.\u00a0 Ching!<\/p>\n<p><img and quaint, very Americana.\u00a0 We all pitched in and Uncle Gordon, who is in his eighties, brought a date.\u00a0 Adorable!\u00a0 And she likes wine so she&#8217;s a keeper.<\/p>\n<p><img would have less to do on Saturday.\u00a0 We had about twenty people over for dinner.\u00a0 Hubs smoked a turkey and we used the Oster roaster again so that the oven would be free.\u00a0 I got all the pies done before Elizabeth came over.\u00a0 She brought one of her daughters, Margaret, to help and she did a wonderful job on the table settings and some of the cooking.\u00a0 I was truly grateful.\u00a0 Ignore my hodge podge of chairs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-6998\" fabulous wines, some amazing toasts, and it was shared with an amazing group of people from all walks of life and different backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs.\u00a0 Matt and Amanda just had their twentieth wedding anniversary.\u00a0 Twentieth!\u00a0 Lots of monogamy toasts happened after that.\u00a0 Between two turkeys there was not a lot of leftovers left.\u00a0 Phew!\u00a0 And Sunday was indeed an all day lounge day, defiantly ignoring the dishes.\u00a0 I mean, it&#8217;s Tuesday and I&#8217;m still washing dishes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large there in the background.\u00a0 See?\u00a0 Cooking wine.\u00a0 Can&#8217;t beat it.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t get pictures of everything.\u00a0 The butternut squash looked strongly like male bits so I left
